Hebron Ne and Concordia Ks had them.  Dad told us stories of prisoners working on the farms.  Once they were served homemade ice cream.  Some ate to much and thought the Americans were trying to poison them. lol. 

Yes, one German POW came back and married the farmer's daughter.  The family still farms here today.  



From what I can figure, ice cream is more of a North American thing, as there's stories about Germans and other Europeans being served it in places like Ellis Island and they didn't know what it was or what to do with it, so they put it on bread, potatoes, in the coffee, tea, basically anything but ate it straight.
