It would be real easy in the days of raw milk to have made a big batch of ice cream with campylobacter contamination that would waste anyone not used to eating it. Been known to happen at church picnics etc!

I grew up drinking raw milk and while my mother always made a cooked custard for her ice cream, she put heavy cream in at 1/4-1/3 of the mix that she poured off the top of the raw milk after it sat in the refrigerator overnight. I don’t know that we ever poisoned anyone but it was certainly possible!
