I’ve read an account of a Canadian who was held by the Japanese in a POW camp. He came back on a US Navy ship that had an ice cream machine on it.
My grandpa made a comment how they were tired of Canadian army rations stationed in Holland after the war. Enough that some of them tried fishing with dynamite.
