The plants don't care how you put the N on or in what form. It all ends up the same after they are in the soil for a while and I think they are all the others made by reacting NH3 with something else. The downside of NH3 is the application equipment is more complex/expensive and it must be placed in the soil and sealed which is a cost in time, equipment and fuel.
So it comes down to cost of the fertilizer and the ease and cost of application. But, whatever works for you, and the less you spend the more you get to keep.
