We've planted rye after corn silage for over 10 years. I'd think you'd get much better tonage with rye or triticale. Harvest Depends on what your looking for in the feed quality or quantity. Harvest at boot stage for good feed or wait a week and double your tonage. We had to plant corn for silage following rye when we had a dairy because we needed the feed. Doesn't till up great and if your going to no-till I'd recommend upgrading press wheels to furrow cruisers or something similar. Don't forget to fertilizer for both crops because you'll pull a lot out double cropping. We've switched to soybeans now that the milk cows are gone and it's much easier crop to grow following rye than corn.
