| We run about 50 head in 2 pastuews. We try to calve in spring and late winter and turn cows out end of April early May. Calves do great hitting that green grass at a month or 2 old. We don’t have a perfect breeding system so sometimes there’s some stragglers that calve on grass. Normally the ones born on grass have less issues then the ones born at home. Wet wrap barley/rye and slam corn in chasing the baler late may works great for us. Have grass hay on some fields that are hard to farm but other than that. Electric fence on stalks all winter when ground is fit. we aren’t perfect at it all but get by and do it cheap. We get by with one bull by spreading calving out longer then some would like. Then breed heifers to calve during their own time so we don’t have them calving with the cows so if there’s issues. | |
