In our area of the Texas Panhandle I like a February-March calf that should be around 500# in the fall to go on wheat pasture, even though some of them are born in pretty harsh conditions. A 500# calf grazing wheat pasture all winter should weigh 800-900 lbs by March and ready for sale.
