Northeast Missouri | Don't know of any source for crushed concrete. Here, it all seems to get used as is (as it was broken out in multi-feet-across slabs), as fill to level out a depression around cities....to turn wasteland into a level site for building mini-malls on...and full of big voids that surely have to result in settling over time. But the companies building on those sites likely don't know their history other than vague assurances from a realtor...
When we want something that will pack we often get "base stone" (what local quarry calls it). It's like coarse crushed lime but with odds and ends larger rocks mixed in. Packs much like lime does, but still not resilient over time with hoof traffic.
By the way, my gravel pads are laid on geotextile, so they don't sink much. The top just wears down so that more gravel has to be added every couple years.
