Subject: RE: New to AgLeader, have mostly trimble, how to RTK?

East Central, Nebraska
it is never in the 'antenna', the antenna is an antenna it has no brains. sometimes in precision ag equipment the gps receiver is on the roof with the antenna and sometimes you will see the gps receiver in the enclosure with the display, this has traditionally been true with trimble. in most all ag leader branded gps devices the gps receiver is on the roof in/with the antenna enclosure, the only time i can think that this was not true was a very long time ago when trimble and ag leader worked together, the ez guide (plus, 500, 250) devices were trimble devices that held the gps receiver in the display and used only antennas on the roof. most all ag leader devices hold the gps receiver in the enclosure with the antenna, this has stayed true to current day and has been true for several years dating back to the early 2000's.

these different devices used to be referred to as "dumb antennas" or "smart antennas". the dumb obviously being an antenna that has no brains on the roof, the smart antenna being a device that holds the gps receiver. one could typically tell by looking at them the difference as the dumb antennas usually just had a coax jack and the smart antennas were typically a plug with multiple wires. i think with newer devices those distinguishments have went away.

in the OP's case, they have a smart antenna (the GPS1500) it just isn't capable of rtk.
