The USPS total volume peaked in 2006 at 213 billion units and dropped to 116 billion units in 2023. Down 45% from the top. They topped out on employees in 1999 at 800,000 and now they are down 38% at 497,000. If I were king for a day I'd deliver mail on half of the routes Mon and Thur then the other half on Tues and Fri and cut 150,000 jobs but the unions would lose their everloving minds.
