I concur with your analysis with one added point.
Israel could view a direct attack by Iran as an opportunity to cut off the head of the snake. If you really think about the future with Iran continuing to inch closer to being a nuclear power, maybe Israel decides to set back their nuclear ambitions. If all the factions attacking Israel are proxies of Iran, this could be viewed as the opening they need to get at the root of the problem.
