Go with a Case. 90 series used to be well within your budget before everything got stupid - now you might have to settle for 70 series. I agree the 90 series cabs are much nicer if you can find one.

I grew up with Cases and IHs. Worked for a guy for several years that had nothing but JDs. Ran ACs just long enough to wonder why anyone liked them. Have a couple of Deutz's too. I'll take a JI Case every day of the week for anything older than boxcar magnums. People that hate on Case transmissions either had bad luck or didn't know how to run them. Out of 13 case powershifts that we've had over the past 30 years, we've had powershift problems on..... one of them. And it was bought used and the problems started right away, so the seller likely knew something was wrong. They are to the point now - just like about any other tractor of that vintage - that if you do have big transmission problems, you can go pick up another one for less than you can fix the one you've got.
