| KSBoy, although there might be some in the layer feed, are you providing your pullets with a free choice source of calcium? Laying hens need a steady source of CA for a long productive life and quality egg shells.
Bone meal used to be another good source of supplemental calcium but I think when BSE appeared and the animal byproduct feeding bans it was discontinued. Bone meal was not as user friendly to the chickens as oyster shell though and they wasted more of it. Also, I believe the grit from the oyster shell helped with gizzard function.
