Mrs. Farmer. Since you like beef and good beef at that I will give you pointers on the correct way the feed out a steer for the last 6 weeks. Got the info from a cattleman in his 80s and the last steer we got from him was fork tender. Feed on good quality grain. Last four to six week place a couple of steers in a small lot (he did 3 at a time no crowding) all the grain they want with sweet molasses, clean water and limit how far they have to walk. He maintained the food was important, but having them walk a lot just ruined the tenderness of the meat. If the steers got out and especially if they ran, he put them back in the pen for another four weeks. Exercise is bad for tender meat. The old guy always had the best steaks.
