se wi | a few years back the univ of minn bred the alcoloid taste out,and came up with the venture and paladon varieties. grazing trials showed the cows loved the stuff, actually prefering it to other grasses. We have about 8 acres on a poorly drained field and have had no problem selling the first crop for dry cow hay. The subsequent crops are plenty good for the equine beasts. In a mix with alfalfa, 1 to 2 lbs is probably enough. Another thing about canary that suprised me was is is one of the most drought resistent grasses. the seed is small and kinda oily or slippery, and is very slow to establish. good luck | |
