West Texas near Lubbock
I have been on 30" cotton rows for the last 10 years.

The big mistake usually made with narrow rows is to increase the plant population just because you have more feet of row per acre.

In cotton, if an acre of your land will support 40,000 plants, thats all it will support, period. Planting on 30" rows gives each plant more linear space between plants resulting in more room to grow.

The middles are shaded sooner, resulting in less weed pressure and less irrigation water lost to soil evaporation.

I like 30" rows, It works for me, however It may may not work for you.

I wouldn't consider going to wider rows because 30" seems to me to be a much more forgiving system when things go wrong.
