Subject: Veris and Yield

Montana
Nice to have company when you maybe going against someone's grain.
I try not to scream too loud as my system is NOT simple.
I had a consultant do a little Veris work on my variable depth to gravel soils and was so impressed that I got my own Veris, soil probe and GIS. Ran the Veris over the whole farm and then poked alot of deep soil cores. Found depth to gravel and soil texture at different depths. Laid the Veris, Yield and IR images in my GIS and there was a lot of agreement on the productivity zones. I believe that it helped me INCREASE yields on good soils and save fert on poor soils. But my poor soils have low water holding capacity and for precipt deficit Montana that's the name of the game in many years. I'm working on making the good soil yield better, and the great soil yield up to it's potential.
In some other states PA helps to bring up the yield in poor zones. But they are not a limited on growing season water..........
