Subject: Automatic Boom Shutoff solution with Patriot 150 (double pole double throw switches)

The short version is this: Has anyone installed either a BoomPilot, AutoMate or EZ-Boom on one of these sprayers that has the double pole double throw switches? How? If you want specific details and are interested in a challenge, read on. Thanks

We have a 1998 Patriot 150 which is set up as follows:

SCS 460 NVM Raven Controller (Does not have boom shutoff switches on the controller)

75' Boom with 5 sections

5 electric ball valves

5 double pole double throw switches in the cab that control the ball valves

A controller somewhere in the wiring harness that takes the information from the 5 double pole double throw switches and tells the raven controller which booms are on and off

For a guidance solution we have the EZ-Guide+ with EZ-Steer on WAAS. We want to integrate an automatic boom shutoff solution into our setup. We have looked at three solutions so far:

Tee-Jet Boom Pilot
Outback AutoMate
Trimble EZ-Boom

From what we've been told the double pole double throw switches cause some serious problems. No matter if they are off or on they are sending power to the ball valves, they're just reversing polarity. This means that any electric gadget that needs to know if the booms are on or off have no clue what's going on because there is always power going to the ball valves. To make the Raven 460 know what's going on they put a device in the wiring harness that can interpret whether the switch is in the on or off position and send that information to the Raven 460. Any boom shutoff solution that we have supposedly needs another of these controllers. They have not yet developed such a device for the Tee-Jet Boom Pilot. The Outback AutoMate has already developed one. I can't find any information about whether there is such a thing for the EZ-Boom

Our other option is to switch out the wiring, switches and ball valves and then we could get whatever boom shutoff solution we wanted.

This is what we've been told. Does anyone have any input on how to do this? We're thinking about going with the Outback AutoMate just because it can be made to work. We would prefer the EZ-Boom to keep the Trimble stuff we already have integrated with it though if it will work as well. Ag-Leader tech support just isn't too good at saying for sure whether we can get something that will work for it. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks
