Couldn't some of the difference be "rolling resistance" of the bigger tires? Whether they're wider or higher, if they have more footprint on the surface, they have more rolling resistance unless someone puts 200# of air in them (CAUTION!! DO NOT DO THAT!!!!).

I wouldn't have thought 4.0 (four point zero) mpg increase would've been possible....but who knows?
