If you disc down your corn stalks you may have trouble with nutrient tie-up. A neighbor went in and disced his wheat straw because he wanted to stubble some back. Even though he applied over 80lbs of actual N it wasn't enough to overcome the tie-up. That wheat was thin and sickly all year long and the yield wasn't anything to write home about.
