Subject: RE: Question for Russ

Centre county Pennsylvania, USA
Dave, I'm not speaking for Russ but brome does NOT seed from the grass seed box in our 750. It bridges over the seed meters. We do seed alfalfa from 750's grass seed box but we now seed all brome, timothy, or orchard grass by mixing grass seed with oats and seed that mix from 750's grain seed carrier. Oat seed keeps grain metering from bridging and makes a good nurse crop, here at least. The oat/grass seed mix we like is 2 bu/acre oat seed and whatever #/acre grass seed, or grass seed mix, we want. Grass seed seems to stay suspended in oat seed in seed box while planting, just mix well before planting. We combine the oats, bale oat straw and have always gotten a good grass stand following that.
