Shattering is a varietal trait. look at the literature that accompanied your beans and see how they rate for shattering. If they are poor, they may be threshing out in the field as we speak. I have walked through fields and heard the popping of pods. If they are rated high for shattering, they could sit in the field for weeks/months perhaps just waiting for harvest.
