Engineers can explain this better but in my experience if you are trying to be a hero, in all likilihood the cultivator won't run level across the separate sections. Forces are thrusting at the cultivator at ground level or below and the counter forces from the cultivator frame and tractor are all substantially higher .

At some point the geometry of the cultivator design submits to brute force and some hinge points will force up and your cultivator will resemble a duck with a broken wing.

Go slower, treat your equipment with respect and with suitable land and a good machine(the 820 is the cadillac but chevies work too), 2" will do a better job than deeper.
