Dodge Co, Wi
cover crops are good, putting it into a grass or legume sod for a few years would help too. Just remember that it takes roughly 10 tons of roots, stover and/or top-growth per acre to increase the SOM level 1% and that 60-80% of that 1% will be lost as CO^2, and only 15-35% of that 1% will contribute to the soil humus after 1 year from incorporation. So if you can plow in 10 tons of OM (roots&shoots)/ acre, after 1 year from that point you should have increased your SOM by roughly 0.25% ie. from 2.0% to 2.25%.
