Subject: Dont believe too much of that........

You'd be supprised how much of the "management prectices" are actually guess work. We are in the same boat. Learning new things every year. In fact, you are way further ahead than you think. Your "fundamental" no-till and other forms of conservation planting are making there way here. New stuff to us, by comparison anyway.

On the rust, age does'nt seem to be the issue. Variety and weather year are the main factors. Also straw management seems to be factoring in now days too. This year, 2006, since the price was looking good, we went with an aggressive fungicide program. It was looking good too till the heat wave came through at the last minute and sort of dinged the seed. Oh well, try again next year. Our main fungicides are systemic type. If we get behind a little, we may go in with say "quilt" to have a little contact activity as well.

Believe me, I know what you mean about proving your theories. Same thing here. Every year a new curve ball. But hey, thats farming, aint it?:-)
