Subject: RE: Sunflower planting/harvesting questions

Last year I bought some Lucke pans to fit on my 820 flex that the reel was shot on. To make a long story short, It wouldn't work. I ended up buying an old JD 100 head to fasten the pans too. This was a mistake too, as the JD straight heads are made to be able to slow down with a variable speed feederhouse, and my 1660 doesn't have that. The head really shakes and rattles but we harvested 600 acres of ton plus flowers with it last year. Make sure that you blow off your combine about 2 times a day, especially around the exhaust manifolds, and take off the little covers that are on the back of the combine where you view the straw spreader spinners, and leave them off. Then blow this area out completely. The static electricity with the oily sunflowers and dry conditions are perfect for starting fires.

I guess if i were you i'd try to find a nice all crop jd head and use that.

Just my 2cts
