Focus on a good and marketable education unburdened by iron that can't love you back. It is very likely your grandfather got rid of something back in the day that allowed him to move up to the TW 15.
If you decide at an appropriate time to start doing custom work as a way into farming do it with a plan built around local demand, reliable equipment and a realistic budget. Don't try to build a future around a money pit that could sink your 6K stash in a flash.
