I would like to see the numbers that building a cow calf confinement is more feasible than turning crop land into pasture.

$2000 her head space at 8% interest is $160 in interest alone.

Let the cows live outside a good grove for the winter, calve on rye in the spring, plant the rye to soybeans, take the $160 you saved in interest per cow and use it to turn some crop land into pasture. Harvest some corn as early as possible so you can turn the cows out on stalks. Crop ground can produce way more than a rolling pasture.

Think making money not making barn payments.
Not gonna dispute the advice, as it’s solid for the most part, but over the term of the building loan, the average interest cost will be considerably less, as 100% financed would be $160 first year, next to nothing last year. Over 20 years it actually works out to about $107, still not chicken feed, but fully more than a third less overall interest expense.

There is interest cost on the last year also, just because you are not paying it to the bank does not meant there is no cost, bank would pay you interest for the money in a CD, however probably will not be 8%, but need to figure some cost to the investment vs. investing it other places.
