If you are able to farm without having the crop insurance I would sure think it is worth giving a try. At 75% coverage it will take a fairly bad year to get any payment from the insurance. Plus you said you hope that you are going to be above the county average on a normal year anyway. So the only reason I would see to even have crop insurance is if you need peace of mind at night to sleep. Just my 2 cents
Given how much of the premium is subsidized, especially at lower levels, it'll almost always average out in my favor to take out a policy here. I'm at 80% currently because a claim once a decade pays the extra premium and at 70% one claim in 30 years is enough to pay. |
