Definitely not saying you need to follow my advice, but I look at it the opposite. Small farmer relying on the crop to provide for my family, so I take out a little higher level crop insurance (80-85%). Yes it costs more, but on small acres it’s not a crazy amount of money, and protects much better. That’s how I do it! I know, higher cost hurts a smaller farmer quicker too, so there is a trade off.
