Subject: RE: Banning TikTok

Banning TikTok is an easy sell to the public because of the Chinese aspect. People are more than willing to overlook the censorship implications this precedent sets for the future because their focus is on the China aspect.

Elon Musk threw a big wrench into governmental control of free speech when he bought Twitter. As a result he has increasingly become a target because he largely refuses to censor people exercising their free speech rights. This precedent lays at least part of the groundwork to force the sale of X in the future. Speculation is circulating that the label “promoting hate speech” is a likely candidate as the reason that will replace the China issue for the platform X.

It is easy fool the public into giving up their rights by giving them a boogeyman to focus on.
