NE ND | There is some pasture ground coming up for sale. I’m curious how the rest of you decide what you can afford to pay. I know it’ll be different everywhere but numbers are numbers. In this part of the world I’d say it takes 5-6 acres per pair for grass for the summer. Our summers are shorter, there is no fall/winter grazing to speak of. Cows go in late April and come out late October. With today’s interest rates paying $1000 an acre for 20 years cost you just a hair over $500 a pair per year. Double for $2000/acre triple for $3,000 an acre give or take a little bit. Where do ya draw the line on what’s feasible? Pasture rents are all over the board, but $30 an acre gets most of it and that would put you $150-$180 a head per year. The caveat being that that’s if you can find it and or keep it long term.
