mercer county, il | Get the soil back in shape first, ph and fertility. Once you’ve gotten the PH in check, plant half of it to alfalfa, and the other half to grass or annuals. Once the alfalfa starts to Peter out, no till some grass into it to keep it for a few more years and reseed the other half to alfalfa.
Don’t reseed until you have the soil back to good fertility and ph. And always try to grow a couple kinds of hay. Sometimes you need the protein of alfalfa, sometimes you don’t.Having 2 kinds of hay makes that easier.
And improved grasses will beat the crap outta feral stuff hands down, in both quality and quantity if you stick with grass. | |
