Was 1974 the year of the late wet Spring followed by an early Freeze in late Summer? I plowed some corn under that Fall. Only time that I ever did that. Froze in the roasting ear stage.
I remember that wet late spring and early fall freeze 1974. My first year farming. We were feeding cattle at the time and had a bunch of corn and just had to be put in the silo.
