WCMO-SWMO Area
Even though I live in MO the tornado outbreak was big news here...1974 was not a good year at all for farming...It was a mess from the start to the finish..We raised lots of milo and planted some of it 3 times..It was way late to mature and we got a early freeze so it never did dry down..The local elevator took it with a huge dock and dried it down..I remember it being $5.30 hundred with as much as a $1.80 dock..It got wet in early October and we mudded out lots of milo and beans that fall with a 403 IH running Arps half tracks..We went to Onslow,Iowa to get them...We were running when most werent..Lots finished harvest in January when it froze up...One neighbors milo was making 90 before the mud and when we helped him finish up it was making 30 as it all fell over and the birds ate lots too...The corn only made 40-50 and we had it done before it got muddy.
