The orifices should be placed in the nozzle body with the numbers facing up. As far as hose length all my machinery has different lengths depending on how far the row is from the central manifold. I’ve never had an issue with different rows flowing more or less as long as I have the correct orifice and pump setting. FWIW I use #41 orifices for 5-6 gallons at 5-6 mph so I think you have the right ones. Like the other poster said you’ll see a difference between water and fertilizer in both pressure and how high the balls ride up.
