Went to the source. Will be FREE (there is essentially no added cost). Will support all standard formats (because the state has multiple systems itself). 1 cm accuracy horizontally, 2 cm vertically. Users will have to buy a generic cellular modem and pay the phone company their fee.
Now, one can think about pairing this data with the LIDAR mapping that the Iowa DNR is doing to further refine its accuracy for hydrology modeling.
There is apparently an ad hoc consortium of states that are doing the same thing.
Iowa is on schedule. The rest of the schedule is 4 monthst to design the system by the vender and 12 months to install statewide. So Spring of 2009.
