Colorado and Oz | This is very interesting. Are all RTK differential corrections created equal? From what I have discovered over the years that those major players in the RTK local differentials have proprietarized the "base station correction" to their system? If so, then Iowa and the other states you mentioned have essentially opened "Closed Methods"? If so then that is really great for all RTK users - aggies, construction, and survey. And while delivery of the corrections via mobile phone or some sort of dedicated mobile modem seems very transparent, that leg of the "system" needs a bit of additional detail. IMHO this idea boils down to the timely roll-out of what has been termed as 3G or a next generation of cellular service where the internet is central to device becoming a general service. As this is the likely case, then the cost to access is the price of the mobile modem and then the metering of gigabits or megabits (hopefully) to conduct the corrections to the rover. I have also heard via the grapevine that the "Coast Guard" RINEX correction and its AM radio signal will be upgraded to provide near-RTK solutions as well. Big changes coming, I guess...?
