Subject: RE: Cutting torch

If you are using acetylene fuel gas, you can get a combination cutting/heating and welding torch set. If you use propane but need to heat as well as cut, you need a combination torch. I don't think you can weld with any fuel gas other than acetylene so if you plan to use the torch for cutting only, a cutting torch, hose & regulators will do. Smith, Victor & Harris are ok.

Get something you can find a tip for when you need a replacement, as well as the o-rings, etc. Get something that you like the feel of the oxygen valve. The last (2 years ago) Victor journeyman I bought wasn't as good as the older torches. (Between the safety improvements and China/Mexico... the roll pin wouldn't stay in the O2 lever, generally lower quality than the older ones.)

If dealer support is available, I would get a Smith. It is still manufactured in the USA, and it is a good product.
