Martinsville, Ohio
I don't know your exact situation but the best thing I ever did was get away from the coulter.

Hairpinning and slabbing and smearing are just too great the day the weather is right and you need to plant, especially in notill.

Rowcleaner is a must to me.

CIH changed notill now we modify every other planter to mimick it and surpass it.

Single disk opener applying N and S to the side, splitting residue
No coulter
Rowcleaner sweeping path clean for row unit but not moving soil
Double Disk opener doing all the primary tillage
Drop very high quality seed with appropropriate seed treatment into soil
Keeton seedfirmer tucking seed into bottom of trench and maybe applying popup/insecticide
Reduced Insider Diameter, formerly CIH notill gauge wheel tire blowing up and exploding tacky soil wall
Spiked closing wheels gently tilling seed trench beside and above without disturbing seed placement, like a garden
40 inch drag chain crumbling and slightly crowning furrow

Goal is to get the best seed evenly placed with the same amount of soil and air pockets above it to germinate together as quickly as possible.

Thousands of farmers have done this with the result in more profit. You can too!
