The ruling was a landowner controls as much of the airspace that he can use or occupy. Meaning if you have a structure built on the land then you control the airspace above that land to the height of that structure. This would allow the land owner to build a fence, building, silo, tower or whatever on their land.

The airspace above the tallest structure and 500 feet above ground level is a little grey as to who would have the right to operate a drone in this space and will probably be determined in future court rulings. Above 500 feet the Goverment has established a public easement for any aircraft but drones are limited to 400 feet above ground level.
