Del, I am a dairy producer too, and I'll go along with your thinking that it justifies late planting. :^) I have seen plenty of time where 1rst crop hay has been cut before the corn is in the ground. I like to get crops in early but it doesn't always justify itself. I guess that why they say, "don't put your eggs all in one basket." Unless I needed all the corn for silage there would be no way I would ever plant only one crop of anything on my farm.
