If you are in a dry area, which I assume your area of South Dakota is, I think placement of your N maybe more important than price. When it's dry for an extended period of time like this year, the corn roots go down and not out to the side dressed N in the middle of the row. Getting the N closer to the row and down in the root zone is very important in that situation. Higher rainfall areas can get by with putting the N in the middle of the row but for dry areas, getting it where the roots will be can make or break a crop. Putting most of the N close to the row makes more sense to me.
