Jake, I think I posted some pics of us planting 30" soys into 3'+ tall green rye a while ago. We burn it off with glyphosate after planting typically. I've not had much problems with rye, dead or not. Wheat stubble at any height has been a real bear for us. Can't get it dry, and then we've had so many slug problems. Might be an entirely different deal where you're at. I don't think a soybean really cares how much cover or shade it grows in.
