99% of the stuff that I get from HF has been useable tools that are worth what I pay,and sometimes much more than what I pay. I have a shop full of tools I could not justify owning for once or twice a year use if I could not buy them for a HF price.
The Chicago Electric paddle switch grinders,12 V battery power grease guns,1/2 VS drill all have been worked hard and seem as good as anything else at 1/4 the $$
A rule of thumb I use to judge HF stuff from a catalog page is that if the price is ALMOST too good to be true,it may be true. If the price is really too good to be true (IE $9.95 grinder) then you should consider it made of leaverite, and leaverite there.
Watch every page of the sale flyers, they have price leader deals to get you to look at every page where a known good item is listed for near 1/2 price. An example is the very good 4-1/2 paddle switch grinders ,regular $29 which are identical in every way to a $60 Black & Decker, sell in those ocasional price leader ad's for $17.
