| The UNL newsletter tries to concisely convey a lot of information. I've read the 3 Agronomy Journal articles on which this newsletter was based. Summarizing them: For many parameters, not much happened -- no significant changes in soil C at 24 and 36 months. However, realize the difficulties in measuring this precisely, and how slowly soil OM changes. Decades-long studies of annual tillage vs no-till show big differences (less C in the tillage plots).
One major finding was dramatic reduction in mycorrhizae (for multiple years) following a single tillage event. This has implications for long-term soil structure, soil OM, crop yield, etc.
One of the peer-reviewed articles admitted their methods of measuring CO2 fluxes were probably less accurate than Reicosky & Lindstrom's. This may explain the somewhat unusual CO2 measurements. | |
