Soldering to the leads will work although not ideal. Use heat shrink and a higher strand count wire. Tin the wires prior to soldering on the connector leads. Tie the wires together to strain relieve them from vibration.
Or you can lay out a board for the connector using EasyEDA and have JLCPCB make it for a few bux. Use phoenix screw terminal strip to connect the wires.
