NW Iowa
If the water bag is out, after 30 min ,no feet, it's in the chute and getting checked.
If no bag,up and down and looking at the ground and nothing after an hr or two they are in the chute.
If fully dilated in the chute. I pull it. I usually don't let them out to dink around.
I have more problems with the vulva not getting loose enough. Once the head is popped out, i usually bear hug them and pull them out with hips sideways.
I am gloved up with lube and chains in bucket when they hit the chute.
I've been doing all my vet work for 20 yrs now.
I got a couple vet books and studied.
rules of pulling
half hitch the chains again after the first loop
lots of lube inside
exam gloves over your shoulder gloves and use hemostats to hold them up
After pulled, I don't recommend holding them upside down. The internals push on the lungs and makes it harder for them to breathe. You don't see them doing it to drowning victims.....
Has to be coughed up
Swipe the nostrils clean, and poke them and get them to sneeze
If not breathing, chest compressions with nasal resuscitation.
The pictures are from and upside down calf way down in the belly last week.
Took me 45 min to get it positioned and out.
It's ok to take a rest if tired. With both arms down in sometimes you have to catch your breath...
No worries unless the cord is severed.
They won't breathe as long as their face is covered.
