Subject: Coal

Coal is also huge business for the railroads. Half of the tonnage through the Bailey yard in North Platte is coal. Its high volume, regular business. But, yes, intermodal is probably a little higher margin. As far as those guys compaining that the RR's don't want to pick up anything less than a unit train. Would you rather farm 20 10 acre patches or one 200 acre field? Especially if you were already running at the full capacity of your equipment and labor?

Oh yes, I almost forgot, ethanol has also added a lot of demand to the rail system in the midwest. Some of that may be offset by fewer grain shipments.
