Subject: RE: one issue is that railroads are taxed on track ownership

Leesburg, Ohio
I can't get too sympathetic for the way railroads are taxed. I understand that they have to pay tax on their track, and the trucks and airline don't. But the track and property under it is an income producing asset, just like farmland or other real estate that has improvements on it. Why shouldn't it be taxed? The trucking and airline industry pay their share of taxes, just in a different form. Now, I would agree that it should be taxed fairly, at a rate that does not overly discourage future investment.
